Waffle Window- The whole farm

Theee waffle window is a very…. interesting place. I came here and was immediately confused as to where it was located. This is due to the fact that the window is on the side of some random cafe (which is strange because you can order the waffle from the waffle window but pay like 2 dollars extra for service which makes no sense…). Now, I have this thing where I have to eat something sweet for breakfast no matter how appealing other food sounds; however, if I eat something small that is sweet before breakfast, I’m fine. Thankfully I had some chocolate covered popcorn before arriving here, so I spared myself the feeling of regret. I felt a little adventurous today and ordered the whole farm, which is WAS a belgium waffle that comes with spinach, carmelized onions, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, chevre cheese, and bacon, (chive garnish). On normal occasions, I would try and stay away from savory waffles, due to a bad experience I had at another waffle joint, that just massively failed to balance sweet and savory elements of a “savory” waffle (it ended up tasting like someone threw 10 sugar packets over a delicious and nutritious breakfast). See, the big difference between savory waffles and savory crepes, is that a waffle is much sweeter and thicker than a crepe, and therefore isn’t as versatile. Its very easy for the sweetness in the waffle to overpower the savory flavors in the toppings. But man, was I satisfied x 1000. The waffle was not too sweet, and It wasn’t overpowering, and it was just perfectly seasoned! Its flavors were balanced by the saltiness of the seasonings used in the mushrooms and the juice. I could easily identify and pull out each different that was in my mouth. This waffle totally changed the way I view savory waffles from now. I would definitely recommend checking out the waffle window in portland.

Yummy in my tummy…

Waffles gallore.

I’m a little obsessed with breakfast. Waffles and french toast tops my list of breakfast foods to order at restaurants, but sadfully, half-way through the meal, i always most likely regret my decision and wish i ordered what someone else had. So I strive to look for the perfect balance in a meal; something that contains the right amount of sugar (to jump start my day, and stomach respectfully), but something that also has enough savory elements in it. Well ladies and gentlemen, I found the perfect mix. throw’em all on the same plate, and bon appetit. Off the Waffle: Self Fulfilling Prophecy.Image

best. French toast. Ever. Berry compote is amazing, almond custard plays nicely with the dish as a whole too. I was very skeptical at first, but i am a believer now. -> http://studioonecafe.com/
